Fares on Kharkiv Metro won’t increase in price in connection with the construction of new stations towards Odesska Street.
First deputy mayor of Kharkiv Igor Terekhov spoke of the issue at a meeting with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), reports Status Quo (RU).
European partners noted that in Kharkiv as well as in other cities, the cost of travel in the subway doesn’t cover all expenses. After the construction of the new station, the city will have to serve the new depot, respectively, subway maintenance costs will increase.
First vice-mayor noticed that in connection with the fiscal decentralization of municipal budget, revenues have increased, so the city is ready to provide financial support to the Kharkiv Metro.
“We don’t intend to raise the price for subway. We won’t in addition to tariff rising increase the fare. It will be a tough financial burden for people,” Terekhov said.
He also said construction time of new stations remain unchanged. Completion of construction of the metro line in the direction of Odesska Street is planned for autumn 2020. In addition, European experts will prepare the project of development of the Kharkiv metro for the next 50 years.
The EBRD and EIB are ready to provide Kharkiv a loan in the amount of around 310,000,000 EUR for the construction of metro stations “Derzhavinska” and “Odesska”, as well as for the construction of electric depot and the purchase of new cars.
