13-14 February, Hackathon-contest (the final stage of project selection) will be held in the educational hub “Spalah” in Kharkiv. The finalists will become members of Ukraine’s first non-profit incubator of IT projects “1991 Open Data Incubator”.
Hackathon (hackathon = to hack + marathon) – is speed programming contest. Hackathon format assumes that in a short time (24 or 48 hours), a group of developers are working on the idea and invented the first prototype.
According to the coordinator of the “1991 Open Data Hackathon” in Kharkiv Anton Kulik: “1991 Open Data Incubator” is looking for projects that solve the problem of Ukrainian citizens, businesses and public bodies”.
Any projects can be applied, but according to the organizers, the priority will be given to the ideas associated with the use of open government and big data:
- Industry solutions for agricultural sector, energy and infrastructure;
- E-government services based on public registers;
- Analytical systems for ministries, regional administrations and mayors;
- Smart City Projects for Ukrainian cities.
As a successful example can be seen system of electronic public procurement ProZorro.
The project participants will have direct contact with government agencies at all levels along with technological support from Microsoft BizSpark.
The results will be presented during “Demo Day” on March 31st. Teams will present completed IT products. They will be able to find investors to win a grant or receive other opportunities to promote the project.
