Today, January 22, the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument of Taras Shevchenko dedicated to the Reunion Day of Ukraine took place in Kharkiv.
In the morning, after a solemn meeting, participants of the event had a minute of silence remembering those who died for the independence and integrity of the Ukrainian state.
In addition, activists held a rally symbolizing the unity of Ukraine. Participants of the action “Chain of Unity” (more than 100 persons) have joined hands and lined up on the sidewalk along the Sumskaya Street. People sang the national anthem of Ukraine, shouted “Glory to Ukraine! – To Heroes of glory!” and other patriotic slogans.
The first deputy mayor of Kharkiv Igor Terekhov, city council members, and representatives of regional authorities, ATO soldiers, representatives of public organizations, clergy, citizens and guests attended the ceremony.
Today, about 16 events were planned in Kharkiv region. It is expected that more than 10 thousand people will take part in them totally. Over 700 police and 100 military staff are supposed to ensure the order.
Reference. The Reunion Day of Ukraine (The Day of Unification of Ukraine) is a national holiday, celebrated annually on January 22. This day in 1919 was declared the act of unification of Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic to form a united Ukrainian state.
