The British boxer Tyson Fury has been stripped of his IBF world heavyweight title less than two weeks after winning it, according to the decision made by International Boxing Federation.
“It’s true, Fury was stripped of the belt. Our candidate was an Ukrainian boxer, Vyacheslav Glazkov, but instead of holding a fight with him, Fury signed an agreement on a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko,” the IBF representative, Lindsey Tucker, said in the interview to BBC channel.
A date of December 11th was set for the bidding to take place but was rendered futile when Klitschko announced he could return next year. Now Glazkov will fight for the vacant title against unheralded Charles Martin. It means that the heavyweight division, which had been ruled by Klitschko for over nine years, will become fractured.
For 27-year-old Fury the win over Klitschko became the 25th one in 25 fights (18 – KO). A 39-year-old Ukrainian suffered the fourth defeat for his career and the first one since April 2004, having in total 64 victories (53 – KO).
