According to sociologists, approximately every second Netherlander to take part in an advisory referendum about Ukraine joining the EU on 6 April.
According to the survey, conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, the number of residents of the Netherlands who are “for” and “against” the “Ukraine-EU” association is the same – 25% of those who plan to participate in the referendum. This was reported by AD.nl.
At the same time, Wikipedia published other information on the referendum, according to which, the study Peil.nl (13-20 March 2016) reports the following: 40% – “agree”, 60% – “against”.
However, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte believes that Ukraine should never join the European Union. He shared this during the interview to NU.nl.
According to him, the Netherlands “believe that Ukraine should have both a good relationship with Europe and with Russia. That is not possible, if they are in the European Union.”
BACKGROUND. The Parliament of the Netherlands completed the process of ratification of the Agreement on Association between Ukraine and the EU in July 2015.
In September the Netherlands collected the necessary number of signatures – more than 450,000 – to hold a consultative referendum on the ratification of the agreement. It was appointed on April 6.
