Kharkivens paid over 70 million UAH of military tax

Since the beginning of 2016, the Kharkiv region has transferred 77 million UAH of military tax to the state budget of Ukraine, reported the General Directorate of State Fiscal Service.

According to the Acting Chief, Mykola Rybakov, in February 2016 the amount paid was 42.1 million UAH. The amount paid in February 2015 was 29.4 million UAH.

Individuals who recieve an income in Ukraine are obliged to pay this tax, and employers who accrue income for wages are responsible for this calculation. In addition, military tax is charged for winning state and non-state organised lotteries, as well as gambling prize money.

BACKGROUND. Military tax (1.5%) was introduced by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on July 31st, 2014 to cover the needs of the army in a military campaign in Donbass, as well as for forces throughout the country.
