Kharkivens can now keep track of their passport application online.

From February 26, this service is now available on the Migration Service’s website.

To check the passport’s progress, you should enter the series and number of the document.

At the moment, the new ID cards are only available to those who have reached the age of 16 years. Presently, the system works only for data entry of a birth certificate.

It was announced on January 11 the Migration Service would begin producing passports for Ukraine citizens in the form of ID cards for teenagers who turned 16.

However, until the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine accepts the bill №3224, there will be no possibility to replace old passports with ID cards. As soon as it is adopted, all comers will be able to revert the old passport.

The new passport is being introduced together with a new identification system as a condition of the liberalization of the EU visa regime for Ukraine.

The new document has an electronic contactless chip to prevent fakes.

It is expected that the passport card will replace the present paper passports within four to five years.
