Kharkiv is a big winner – or so The Financial Times (FT), the international business newspaper, has announced.
The FT declared Kharkiv the winner in the ‘best large city of the future category’ in its “European cities and regions of the future” competition.
Today (Feb 24) Mayor Gennady Kernes made the announcement during a session of the City Council.
He said: “Kharkiv is a city famous for its traditions and every year we have to multiply these traditions in terms of results. An authoritative edition like the Financial Times recognized our efforts were not in vain.“
In addition, Kharkiv was honoured by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe.
Under a Europe-wide action on local democracy, the congress gave Kharkiv the highest rating “City of 12 stars”. The Ambassador of Ukraine received the certificate in France on February 1 in Paris.
Mr Kernes said: “The achievement is a merit of the whole city, of all Kharkivens.”
