The security services of ammunition depots in Ukraine was tightened resulting from the attempt of sabotage on the armory in the Kharkiv region, announced the official representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vladyslav Seleznyov on the TV channel “112 Ukraine”.
On December 26 around 3.00 a.m. on the largest ammunition depot in Europe in the city Balakleya of Kharkiv region was prevented the diversion. According to one version that is under investigation, incendiary materials were deployed by drones into the territory of the armory, said Dmitry Gorbunov, the head of the media center of the Regional Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
“The raiders have acted in collusion: inflammable materials fell on the territory of ammunition depot but rather far from the warehouses of ammunition – 3 km and the nearest town or the administrative buildings were at a distance of more than 5 km,” told Dmitry Gorbunov.
At the moment, at the site of incident is working committee of the General Staff of Ukraine, the main operations are conducted by investigators of military counterintelligence of Security Services of Ukraine and the military prosecutor of Kharkiv garrison. In addition, the mine pickers are combing the territory of the ammunition depot in the search of possible threats.
“The situation is under control. All other armories, bases and ammunition depots which are at the disposal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were transferred into heavy security …” said Seleznyov.
According to the representative of the General Staff in connection with the incident the work of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the observation posts was reinforced, military men conduct tighten control over each object.
Reference, the ammunition depot in the city Balakleya is located about a hundred kilometers from Kharkiv. Its territory covers about 700 hectares. It’s considered to be the largest ammunition in Ukraine and one of the biggest in Europe.
