Between 10 and 11 p.m. on Tuesday the 30th of June, Kharkiv districts Pavlovka and Alekseevo Pole were rocked by what residents described as a loud bang resembling an explosion. Social media and forum users reported the arrival of police and ambulance cars to the site of the event, thought to be in the proximity of a local Klas supermarket.
Eyewitnesses disagree on whether there was a rapid sequence of three explosions, or just one powerful blast. Either way, it was strong enough to set off the alarm systems in cars parked nearby, and rattle windows.
The city’s State Security HQ and Prosecutor’s Office were unavailable for comment on Tuesday night, which probably means the city’s residents will have to wait until Wednesday morning for an official commentary on what exactly happened.
