The Cabinet of Ministers of the Netherlands is to support granting Ukraine a visa-free regime with the EU, reports the Europeiska Pravda news portal (UA).
The decision was taken last Friday and is based on results of the working group to assess the proposal of the European Commission.
“With the progress made in relation to the targets presented to the Commission, Ukraine has fulfilled all conditions of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan (VLAP). The government is also in favor of this proposal,” the document says.
However, the Dutch government considers it necessary for the European Commission to continue monitoring the achieved benchmarks.
Despite the fact that the Commission announced the submission of a legislative proposal on visa liberalization for Ukraine, its proposal must go through lengthy approval between the EU member states and the European Parliament.
BACKGROUND: April 6, the consultative referendum in the Netherlands showed more than 60% “against” an association agreement between the EU and Ukraine.
