In Kharkiv, even academics hold a rally


Kharkiv regional organization of trade union of workers of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine will hold a rally at Svobody Square next Tuesday (March 29) at 14.00, informed Status Quo (RU).

About 500 people will take part in it. In particular, Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology took an interest in the opportunity to participate in the action.

As noted in the trade union, the scientists will demand the government allocates sufficient funds from the state budget for science in Ukraine.

“We will demand to make changes to the state’s 2016 budget and allocate to NAS 725 million 43 thousand UAH. This will solve the problems with the salary of scientists,” noted the trade union.

Background: The academic science body last protested at Svobody Square on October 10, 2012. The action was attended by 150 people. Participants demanded the government and the president to increase funding for the science sector: to take into account in the state budget-2013, budget request of NAS of Ukraine in the amount of 3 billion 689.4 million UAH, as well as to provide payroll in the amount of 2 billion 427.2 million UAH.
