According to the organizers, rockabilly festivals are held annually in different cities across Ukraine. The biggest is the internationally-renowned Kyiv-based 11-year-old Ukrabilly Bang.

In autumn 2012 for the first time, there was an annual Rebel Fest in Sumy and last August there was Blaxie Rumble festival in Odessa.

Rockabilly is a blend of country, hillbilly and boogie woogie. The brightest representatives of this style are Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Bill Halley, Wanda Jackson, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis.

“These festivals are held in major cities and small towns across Ukraine. And it’s quite wrong Kharkiv hasn’t held any yet, even though the 50s American movement is quite popular,”  said festival organizer, Svetlana Smirnova.

The first two days of the festival will be held at the club “Zhara” where 13 music bands will perform, beginning at 17.00. There will also be a tattoo artist and hairdresser, while clothes and fashion accessories in the rockabilly style will be on sale.

The third day will be at club Akuna Matata, beginning at 19.00. Admission price for all three days is 200 UAH.

Ukrainian bands from Kharkiv, Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Odessa, Zaporizhia, as well as ones from Voronezh (Russia) and Chisinau (Moldova) will be present. Among the participants will be Wise Guys, Outer Space, Tomato Juice, Red Fox Tails, The Dodgers, while nearly all the music will be in English.
