The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina got through to the semifinal of the representative tournament of the series WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in Dubai (the prize fund – $ 2 million). In a match of the third round Kharkiven broke the resistance of the American Coco Vandeweghe – 6: 4, 1: 6, 6: 2.
The match lasted nearly two hours. During the time spent on the court, the Ukrainian played one ace, made nine double faults and won 59% of the balls on the first pitches. At the same time American played four aces, eight times made faults and won 49% of the first pitches.
“It’s very complex match. I’m glad I was able to bring it to victory on my pitch. In the second set happened something strange with me, as if I was not on the court. But the third set I managed to start good. It makes me happy. Even though I lost my first game I felt that I was still in the game,” said Svitolina.
In the fight for the right to pass to the final Svitolina will measure strength with Italian Sara Errani who in parallel semifinal won Madison Brengl.
