First Ladies of Germany and Ukraine arrived in Kharkiv

Today Kharkiv saw the First Lady of Germany Daniela Schadt. She settled in the VIP hotel Premier Palace Hotel Kharkiv which was constructed for Euro 2012 on Freedom Square.

The wife of the German President arrived in Ukraine on January 17 with a three-day charity visit as patroness of UNICEF. Her primary mission is to support families of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the ATO area and, above all, to help children affected by the military conflict in the east of Ukraine. For the implementation of this project the German government has already allocated to the Ukrainian branch of UNICEF 28 million euros.

On January 17 in Kiev, Ms. Schadt had a meeting with the first lady of Ukraine Marina Poroshenko, after what they both arrived in Kharkiv within the framework of social and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine of the German UNICEF Committee. During their visit to Kharkiv the first lady of Germany will meet with the families of IDPs and volunteers to get precised information about the situation in Ukraine.

“We’re going to Kharkiv – a region that has received a significant number of the IDPs from Donetsk and Lugansk regions to see their living conditions and to find out how the international community can help,” said Ms. Daniela Schadt at the meeting with Marina Poroshenko on January 17.
