Kharkiven Valery Sokolov is one of the most requested young violinists in the world who has received recognition due to the technical excellence of the playing, emotionality and artistic maturity in the performance of the most complex works of the violin repertoire.
Valery Sokolov who is one of world’s top 10 violinists was studying in one of the classrooms of the Kharkiv Special Music School. The violinist who gave solo concerts in the best halls of Paris, London, Rome, Baden-Baden, Vancouver, Hong Kong yesterday performed on the native stage.
The “great musical voyage” for Valery Sokolov started at the age of 12. In 1999 he participated in the young violinist competition in Spain. And as the youngest participant he won a special prize – a scholarship. He continued his education in London. Now Valery lives in Germany and works with the most famous symphony orchestras in the world.
Despite of frantic pace and a tight schedule he tries to come in Kharkiv once a year. Here he meets with young musicians and gives master classes.
“I don’t consider myself as a teacher. I am still learning. I have a lot to learn, I think so. But, of course, there comes a time when you want to share the experience with the young generation,” said Valery Sokolov.
90% of the time Valery spends abroad but Kharkiv and Ukraine he still considers as home. He said that abroad – a musical relevance and infrastructure but the soul pulls him in Kharkiv. Recently, he started to perform contemporary Ukrainian music.
In Kharkiv Valery Sokolov will stay for a week. On December 2 his violin sounded in the Shevchenko Theater. Together with his musician colleagues he played compositions by Tchaikovsky, Debussy and Faure. After that, the violinist will have the big European tour.
