The first Ukrainian-American training program in the IT law field was launched in Kharkiv.

“This is the first in Ukraine, Ukrainian-American, practice-oriented interdisciplinary certification program for the training of lawyers focused on the IT-industry,” said the co-director of the program, Director of the Law Science Research Institute of the National University «Yaroslav the Wise Law Academy of Ukraine» Olga Simson at the press conference on October 15th.

She noted that today in Ukraine multi-skilled lawyers are educated without the specifics of the branch which they will choose for work.

“The main purpose is to give students the conception of how American lawyers think and the structure of the US legislation,” said the co-director of the program, a professor of Law at Cornell University, Charles K. Whitehead.

“We don’t have a base platform. That is, programmers don’t know what is jurisprudence and lawyers don’t know about the IT-business” said Edward Rubin, Pro-Rector of National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” on information technologies and public-private partnership, the president of IT-cluster.

According to Olga Simson, this training program is the result of cooperation of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University and Cornell University (USA). The lectures will be given by the lawyers of US companies Pepper Hamilton (Boston), Wilmerhale (Boston), Cooley Godward (New York), Dentons (New York), Wilson Sonsini (New York), by Ukrainian law firm OMP (Kiev), by Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, and Cornell University as well.
