The Security Service of the Ukraine, in cooperation with the police, blocked one of the Kharkiv region’s cable TV providers.
The provider re-transmitted television programs produced in Russia, which do not comply with the requirements of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and therefore are forbidden to be shown within the territory of Ukraine, informs the press service of the SSU.
During searches in the production and office premises, the provider company server equipment, along with the accounting records, was confiscated. It is being checked whether the officials of the company are involved in tax evasion.
Criminal case is commenced under Article 176 (violation of copyright and related rights) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction prescribes a fine up to 17 000 UAH or up to two years in prison. Operational-investigative actions are underway.
