Kharkiv sportsmen won the Ukrainian ice climbing championship, which took place on March 11-13 at the climbing wall “Vertical”, the press service of the City Council reported.
Athletes from six regions of Ukraine: Kharkiv, Kyiv, Odessa, Donetsk, Lugansk and Zaporizhia took part in the event.
The competition was held among men and women in two disciplines: “complexity” and “speed”.
“In the first discipline the most important thing is the height which an athlete has reached, while in the second one the main point is who will make the same route faster. For example, the best result on 15 meters road is less than 7 seconds,” the ice climbing world champion and organizer of the event Valentin Sipavin told us.
Kharkivens, Valentin Sipavin and Darya Kovar, won the first places in both disciplines.
In total, the team of Kharkiv region got 4 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals having take the overall first place. The second place went to the team of Odessa region, and the third one passed to the Kyiv team.
“This is my first competition, I came here to learn and see how others do it. I would like to put a starting point to come here next year and compare the results,” Elizaveta Shakhovha shared her motivation to participate in.
