Advertising of medicines could be prohibited in Kharkiv

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health recommended the Parliament to support at the first reading the bill number 3246 on the prohibition of advertising of medicinal products.

According to RBC-Ukraine, the explanatory memorandum to the bill states that the majority of Ukrainians do not have medical education and do not know about the mechanisms of action of drugs and its effects on the body. Therefore, advertising of medicinal products is harmful to health, as most Ukrainians are engaged in self-medicate.

The bill provides for the prohibition of advertising of medicinal products on the territory of Ukraine, except advertising of medical equipment, methods of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation which are allowed by the specially authorized central executive body in health care. The requirements to such advertisement are established by the law “On advertising”.
