Two Ukrainian Universities achieved a very high ranking according to the British publication Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016: Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University are at positions in the 601 to 800 range from 800 ranked universities in the world.
According to analysts, Ukrainian universities got shortlisted as the rating of this year were expanded from the top 400 from 41 countries to the top 800 from 70 countries.
Experts explain that the Ukrainian universities are “at the tail” of the list, because their main function is education, but researches of World University Rankings direct on the estimation of research institutions. The top five ranking include such well-known universities as the California Institute of Technology (USA) (first place), University of Oxford (UK) (second place), Stanford University (USA) (third place), University of Cambridge (fourth place), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) (fifth place).
In making the rating, 13 performance indicators were taken into account that allow to make the most complex and balanced comparisons. In turn, these indicators were grouped into five directions: level of educational services, level of researches, citation of scholarly articles, international activities, and income from industry cooperation.
Recall, September 15th, 2015 the British company Quacquarelli Symonds promulgated international ranking of higher education institutions QS World University Rankings 2015/16, in which the performance of universities in the world were estimated. 6 Ukrainian universities got shortlisted in this ranking, V. Karazin Kharkiv National University was in the position 491-500, National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” was in the position 701+.
