The XXX marathon “Liberation” passed in Kharkiv

This August Kharkiv city celebrates the 361 birthday from its foundation along with the 72 anniversary of the liberation of Kharkiv from the Nazis and the 24th anniversary of Independence of Ukraine. The marathon “Liberation” organized by Kharkiv Regional Administration was dedicated to these memorable dates.

In the competition at distances of 3, 10, 21 km 097 m, 42 km 195 m, participated the war veterans, disabled athletes, representatives of different cities of Ukraine and CIS countries, guests from the twin cities and residents of Kharkiv. The total number of participants was about 5 thousand people. Runners went the distance on the highway of the city, started and finished at the stadium “Dinamo”, informs the official website of Kharkiv Regional State Administration. The Deputy Chairman of KRA Julia Svetlichnaya was also among the participants. She ran a distance of 10 km.

The event was supported by KRA, management of physical culture and sports, as well as the Athletics Federation of Kharkiv region.

“I have spent 3 year to receive the permission to run this marathon and finally, we held it. This year the marathon is held for the 30th time. This means that we created a good project. This is the only marathon in Ukraine, dedicated to the liberation of the city of Kharkov from fascist invaders, not just a commercial one, ” said Nikolay Zudin, the organizer of the event.

The total prize fund of the competition was 79 thousand UAH.

FRY: The marathon started in 1985, when there were only 7 participants. Thanks to the enthusiasm and perseverance of famous marathoners Igor Shcherbakov and Nikolay Zudin, who found support in the urban sports organizations, the event is held every year.
