At night from Sunday to Monday in Kharkiv, the stele erected in the park of Friendship between Ukraine and Russia on Moscow Avenue was demolished. The local newspaper NewsRoom reported about it with reference to eyewitnesses.
The incident occurred around 21.45. As the eyewitness who filmed the process of dismantling, reported there was a police patrol car, a group of young people who were sitting in a car nearby and crane of public utility “Kharkiv heat networks” on the scene. The process of demolition was more like an organized dismantling.
“The police didn’t interfere with the demolition, and then they left. Moreover, there were a lot of utility providers and a guy who wrote everything that had happened” said the eyewitness.
However, the police have already commented on the overnight disappearance of the stele. As reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) the police received signal of dismantling at 22.10.
“The investigation group and the patrol police went to the scene. They discovered that workers of public utility “Kharkiv heat networks” carried out scheduled repairs of heat pipeline for which it was necessary to remove this stele,” said in the police.
As assured by the police department, the stele was taken to the territory of the utility. Upon completion of repairs the monument will be returned on the place.
Recall that stele of Friendship between Ukraine and Russia has already been attacked in May last year. The unknown doused the stele with red paint which was likely to symbolize blood according to the authors.
