Electric tractor “Edison” fitted with an electric motor and Japanese lithium-ion batteries will be produced at the Kharkiv Tractor Plant. The tractor “Edison” will be the first Ukrainian serial electric tractor. The tractor is named in honor of Thomas Alva Edison – American inventor of incandescent light bulbs.
If the “Tesla” is conquering the world with electric vehicles, the “Edison” is going to do it with electric tractors. They are going to create a line of electric tractors from 25 to 400 horsepower for 5 years.
This tractor is a joint development with the company “AutoEnterprise” and it does not have any analogues in the world. The tractor is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with capacity of 40 kW and electric engine capacity of up to 40 h.p.
“The tractor needs about 2 to 4 hours to charge fully. It can operate continuously up to 8 hours in the transport position and up to 4 hours in the work force,” said the director general of Kharkiv Tractor Plant (KTP) Vladislav Gubin.
Relatively small 25-horsepower tractors work on a lithium-ion battery and has electric transmission. It was created on the basis of KTP tractors. It will be produced by Edison Motors.
The basic model cost is expected to be $ 15,000. The air conditioner will add on $ 1,199, the power take-off (PTO) – $ 770, four-wheel drive – $ 2,500, and the battery of 48 extremely-high frequencies (EHF) – $ 5000. The mass production of the “Edison” tractor is planned to launch on the KTP at the end of 2015.
