630 children became orphans in Kharkiv region in 2015, as the regional council reported at a meeting of the Commission on Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism.
According to the head of the Office of Children’s Services of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Tatiana Pecherskich, today 95.4% of orphaned children have adopted family forms of education. The reforming program of the institutional system for orphans and children deprived of parental care has been working in the region for seven years.
“When the program started to work 58% of orphaned children adopted a family form of education in schools located in the region. It means that almost every second child was sent to residential care, because it was the easiest way to place a child in foster care. The negative point of this method was the fact that when children become orphans, they were severed, and, as the experience shows, they would have never met after,” said Tatiana.
