According to Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, due to the active southern cyclone movement to Ukraine, on January 18 at the Kharkiv region are expected very severe weather conditions: heavy snowfall and blizzards, snowdrifts and wind speed 17 – 22 m / s (in some places – 25 m / s).
The information about it weather forecasters gave to rescuers, road services, local and regional authorities. Due to the deterioration of weather conditions the law enforcement officers recommend drivers to refrain from driving on their own transport and those who will drive to be very careful at the wheel.
“In terms of snowfall it’s necessary to use dipped beams (or fog lights), stick to speed limits and observe parking regulations. Taking into account the weather conditions on the roads is a high accident rate,” warned the Department of Communication of the National Police of Ukraine.
The snowfall will continue until January 21. As say forecasters, such a long period of inclement weather conditions in the Kharkiv region are rare – about once every 10 years. By the end of next week, the precipitation will be less but will increase the frost. In some places the temperature will down to minus 23.
