UNICEF allocates $2 million for IDPs

First Deputy Chairman of Kharkiv Regional State Administration Julia Svetlichnaya met with UNICEF Deputy Representative in Ukraine Rudy Luhmann to discuss the project: Promotion of social cohesion and integration of internally displaced persons in east Ukraine, informs the KRSA press service.

The project will be implemented during the 2016-2017 period. The German government has allocated $2 million for the Kharkiv region.

The project has several directions:

  1. Expanding, improving the quality of preschool education (about $1 million)
  2. The development of the youth sports movement (about $500,000)
  3. Involvement of young people in the implementation of social projects (about $300,000)

In addition, it is planned to work with children with special needs.

Luhmann added they want to spread this experience to other regions of the country.

BACKGROUND: The project will be implemented in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and the territories controlled by the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In total, the German government has allocated more than $14 million.
