Since the new year Ukraine has officially assumed its duties as a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations.\u00a0This was stated in the message of Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian diplomats thanked all the countries which<\/span> have <\/span>supported the candidacy of Ukraine at <\/span>the post.\u00a0“We are ready to closely cooperate in ensuring global peace and security,” a mission representative of Ukraine Vladimir Yelchenko <\/strong><\/span>said.<\/p>\n The UN Security Council consists of 15 members: five permanent with the right to veto, and 10 non-permanent members. The permanent members are France, the United Kingdom, the United States, China and the Russian Federation, and non-permanent ones are Ukraine, Angola, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Senegal, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.<\/p>\n Ukraine was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council on October 15th, 2015 for the period 2016-2017. The current representative of Ukraine to the UN is Vladimir Yelchenko.
