{"id":7020,"date":"2016-01-11T17:48:03","date_gmt":"2016-01-11T14:48:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thekharkivtimes.com\/?p=7020"},"modified":"2016-01-11T17:48:03","modified_gmt":"2016-01-11T14:48:03","slug":"ukraine-took-up-duties-as-a-member-of-the-un-security-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thekharkivtimes.com\/2016\/01\/11\/ukraine-took-up-duties-as-a-member-of-the-un-security-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine took up duties as a member of the UN Security Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since the new year Ukraine has officially assumed its duties as a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations.\u00a0This was stated in the message of Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ukrainian diplomats thanked all the countries <span lang=\"en-US\">which<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">have <\/span>supported the candidacy of Ukraine <span lang=\"en-US\">at <\/span>the post.\u00a0&#8220;We are ready to closely cooperate in ensuring global peace and security,&#8221; a mission representative <span lang=\"en-US\">of Ukraine <strong>Vladimir Yelchenko <\/strong><\/span>said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The UN Security Council consists of 15 members: five permanent with the right to veto, and 10 non-permanent members. The permanent members are France, the United Kingdom, the United States, China and the Russian Federation, and non-permanent ones are Ukraine, Angola, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Senegal, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ukraine was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council on October 15th, 2015 for the period 2016-2017. The current representative of Ukraine to the UN is Vladimir Yelchenko.
