ISIL ideologists try to recruit foreign students in Kharkiv

Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) announced about threat of stepping-up of “Islamic State” in the Kharkiv region. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) try to recruit foreign students in local universities as potential terrorists.

This was announced at a meeting of the Regional Development Council on April 20 by the head of the security services in the Kharkiv region, Alexander Pivovar, UNIAN reports.

“In the region is recorded a threat to the national security of Ukraine on the part of supporters of the international terrorist organization “Islamic State” and other extremist religious organizations of Islamic fundamentalism. A significant number of foreign students, natives of the Muslim world countries study in local universities, and ISIL ideologists already resort to attempts to recruit foreign students as potential terrorists,” said Pivovar.

He also noted that in the region there are attempts to resume the sabotage and terrorist activities of organized groups, formed from the Ukrainians with the support of the Russian side.

According to Pivovar, since the beginning of the year the SSU in the Kharkiv region has eliminated two sabotage-reconnaissance groups, which tried to make explosions on the railway in Lozovaya and Izuym.
